Monday 5th
Today we
have come across the first real case of a child that needs support. He has
difficulties with oral and written expression, we have had to make decisions about what
measures we would take.
I like this
activity, but it was a little bit difficult to decide which measures choose for
helping the child, but as we have the material for deciding this, I think it
was not so bad.
You can see here the case of Javier, the child with difficulties: https://cv4.ucm.es/moodle/mod/resource/view.php?id=3257485
After reading that document and studying the case, we make some decisions, answering the questions the teacher told us. Below you can see all this information.

MEASURES OF ATTENTION TO DIVERSITY CASE STUDY
Javier is a 6th grade of Primary student in a
state-funded School in Madrid. It is a School with three classrooms per level.
The approximate school population is 1100 students in a neighborhood of
upper-middle class. Taking into account the report below, the tutor and the
teaching team have to design and provide the most appropriate measures of
attention to diversity at the beginning of the academic year. They have the
support of the guidance department and the EOEP of the zone, if necessary. In
order to establish the measures of attention suitable, the following work
script is proposed:
- Read the
report carefully.
- Describe
what would be the main goal to attend this specific case.
Javier has difficulties on language acquisition and
from a social point of view he has problems when it comes to interact with his
partners; so, we think that the main goal for attending this case would be
developing linguistic skills, including oral and written expression, in a
fluently way, so that little by little he fills more confidence and
comfortable, this will lead to an autonomous child with critical thinking that
makes his own decisions.
- Decide what
kind of measures of attention to diversity are indicated:
a. Ordinaries
b. Extraordinaries
We find two types of measures: ordinary and
extraordinary. On the first hand, extraordinary measures are aimed for students
with specific educational needs, it is needed a previous diagnose through a
psycho-pedagogic evaluation, and a continuous monitoring for adapting the
decisions taken. These measures are only applied in compulsory education. And,
on the other hand; ordinary measures, have two main impacts: on the general
organization of the school and on the prevention and detection of learning
difficulties. From our point of view; in this case, Javier will need ordinary
measures as he just needs more support than the rest of the students.
- Explain why
you choose one type of measures or the others and describe them as
accurately as possible:
We have chosen ordinary measures because we think that
this type of measures will help the child to improve his weaknesses and get the
best out of him.
a) Organizational
measures
We believe that Javier needs help from supporting
groups and insignificant curricular modification with methodological
strategies, so, he needs measures on the general organization of the school;
including the organization of the student’s groups, the use of spaces:
strategies favoring universal accessibility and allowing him to take part of
participation in learning.
b) Curricular adaptations
We must adapt Javier’s curriculum because he has a
slower rhythm of learning in linguistic expression than the rest of the
classroom, we are going to choose a non-meaningful curricular adaptation
because if not, he is going to feel different and as he finds difficult to
establish relationships it is not good for his development. Non-meaningful
curricular adaptations are modifications that we make in the program that does
not affect the curriculum.
c) Supports and reinforcements.
We think that this child needs support by specialized
teachers in the subjects he finds more difficulties, especially in developing
linguistic skills. Among the measures, he needs tutor guidance,
developing his level of collaborative work. So, Javier would have an
individualized attention thanks to reinforcement and support mechanisms.
It will also be important to have support in classroom
with group splitting and flexible grouping, including the implementation of
different resources and several methodological strategies.
d) Other necessary elements of the Attention to diversity Plan.
We think that Javier does not really need an Attention
to diversity plan, he does not present the characteristics of child who needs
this type of measures according to the actual Spanish Educational System.
This last answer is incorrect, the teacher told us
that we shoul think about our answer, so me and my group read a document about
Attention to Diversity Plan and realized that this child needs more elements of
the Plan. I attach here a link with a document about Attention to Diversity: https://cv4.ucm.es/moodle/mod/resource/view.php?id=3257485
